What are Xeomin, Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau?
Xeomin (Merz), Botox (Allergan) and Dysport (Gallderma) are injectable neuromodulators, meaning they can temporarily alter the nerve impulses of targeted muscles, therefore reducing or eliminating contraction-induced wrinkles. Since first introduced to the medical community in 1989, as a treatment for eye muscle disorders, administration of Botulinum Toxin A has now become the most popular non-invasive aesthetic medical procedure performed worldwide.
Xeomin is a purified neurotoxin that is considered “cleaner” than its main competitor, Botox. It is better with clients with sensitivities to Botox. It can also be used by younger patients or those patients that want a “lighter” feel while still suppressing the wrinkling from facial expressions. Dysport sets up a little faster and is better for those clients who have been using Botox for a while.
Neurotoxins decrease/inhibit muscle movement that causes wrinkles and age your skin. Effects are seen with 14 days. Treatments typically last for 3 months but results may vary.
Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet are the fine lines around the corner of the eyes. They are often the first wrinkles to appear and are caused by repeated contractions of the facial muscles use to smile, squint and laugh.
At first, they are only present when you smile or make a facial expression, but with time they become visible even when your face is at rest. Botox is one of the most effective ways of reducing the appearance of crow’s feet.
Lip Flip
Botox is injected into sections of the lip to target the superficial layers of the muscle at the side of the upper lip to relax the muscle fibers enough to flip the lip outward without effecting the function of the muscle.
The Botox lip flip requires about 10 units (or less) of Botox (a very small amount when compared to the likes of fillers) and lasts about 2- 4 months.
How is Jeuveau Different from Botox®?
Like BOTOX®, JeuveauÆ is used to temporarily paralyze the underlying facial muscles in the face, creating a smoother look and alleviating frown lines, and results last approximately three months. JeuveauÆ offers several advantages, and is quickly becoming the most requested alternative to BOTOX® because:
Smooths lines and wrinkles like BOTOX® but is the first and only product to be clinically developed for aesthetics and dedicated exclusively to aesthetics.
May be more effective if BOTOX® is no longer achieving results.
May act more quickly than BOTOX®, and lasts longer for some people.
